Part time Finance Assistant 

Are you detail-oriented, enthusiastic, and eager to make a difference? SHEAP is looking for a dedicated Finance Assistant to join our dynamic team to help with management accounting, forecasting, reporting and grant applications as we continue to expand.  

The Post

We are looking for a candidate to join our finance and admin team working in our office in Lerwick for a total of 22.5 hours per week.  We can be flexible on when these hours are worked.  There is an opportunity to work some of these hours from home.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with the finance manager and team to deliver:

  • Management Accounts and Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing monthly management accounts, monthly reporting, yearend accounts and audit preparation.
  • Payroll Processing: Assist with payroll preparation and timesheet collation.
  • VAT Returns: Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: preparation of budget reports, financial planning / forecasting and other related financial procedures.
  • Project appraisal and funding applications: Assist with project costings and financial analysis as well as completion of funding applications.
  • Financial Analysis:  Cost analysis.
  • Customer Service, Administration Support: Supporting the existing team by taking customer payments, answering customer queries, purchase ledger, etc during holiday periods. 
  • Financial Procedures: comply with all policies, procedures, legal and regulatory requirements.

Skills
 Essential:

  • AAT qualified or equivalent, or currently studying towards a professional accounting qualification (e.g., ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Proven experience as a financial assistant or other relevant financial support experience. 
  • Strong analytical skills, proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. 
  • Quick learner with excellent personal organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and work to and meet daily priorities and deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively across teams and with a variety of people both inside and outside the organisation.
  • Professional level of accuracy in all work with excellent attention to detail, written English and numeracy skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a proven ability to respond positively and proactively to colleagues and external contacts.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material.
  • Commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. 

Desirable

  • Experience with SAGE accounting software.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and project assessment.

  • £29,000 - £33,750 per annum salary pro-rata’d (22.5/37 hours).
